So I've expressed my love on the blog for both cover songs and how the BBC handles music artists. So I felt it was only natural to talk about BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge. BBC Radio 1 is a national radio station owned and operated by the British Broadcasting Corporation. The Live Lounge is a segment of the show where various artists come in to perform both their own songs & a song from another artist. Me being a big fan of covers recently went through the various archives of the Live Lounge, and among the well known covers posted on Youtube such as Paramore covering "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon or 30 Seconds to Mars performing "Bad Romance" (as mentioned in my first cover songs blog), there are quite a lot of covers ranging from the fanastic, to the unique, to the almost absurd.
So for those unaware, as of late I have taken a very keen interest in the fighting game community. Particularly, tournaments & the competitive scene going on. I missed an episode of RBR to partake in South Florida Challenge V, talked about my experience on "Attack of the Killer Keyboard", & devoted my episode of 600 Seconds with Anthony Skatz on the subject matter. So needless to say, while I am by no means a top player, I enjoy taking part in & watching events. And there is no bigger event than the Evo Championship Series.
Best Albums of 2011

It was around this time last year where I released my list of what were in my opinion the best albums of 2010. However, after making that list, I had realized that I had skipped or left out on a handful of albums that could have (& should have) made the list. I did amend things with a blog dedicated to those albums, but this year, I wanted to make sure I won't have to amend this list.
Since the beginning of the year, I have been keeping track of every album released in 2011. I have listened to as many artists as I can in my spare time, ranging from Patrick Stump, to Drake, to Kelly Clarkson, to Chevelle, to Bjork. At times, things were a bit of a chore. And yet at the same time, this also exposed me to a lot of great new music. So much so, that I am expanding my list from 20 albums to 50. This year has given quite a lot of really great albums. To the point where i had to leave quite a few out high-profile & good albums of my list, such as "50 Words for Snow" by Kate Bush, "Wasting Light" by Foo Fighters, & "Watch the Throne" by Kanye West & Jay-Z.
Please be aware that this list is for FULL albums. No singles or EPs, although mixtapes are good in my book. Also no live albums or re-releases. It's all-new music here. Also only one album per artist. Yes, there are some artists who released multiple albums this year. Also be aware that this is my personal opinion. I'd like to believe I have a good overall spectrum of music, but my tastes might not coincide with yours.
Jarrod Johnston (BadBad_LeroyBrown on the forums) returns to discuss how the overvaluing of review scores--Metacritic in particular--and the hyperbolic reactions to them by fans are hurting the industry, from a unique viewpoint that's seldom heard on the internet. Or at least as much of it as we can get within 10 minutes.
This past week, Sonic Generations was released to the public. To the surprise of some, the game has garnered mostly positive reviews (some mixed reviews but none negative). But after getting my hands on the game, it seems that while as an overall game it is good, to get the full experience of Sonic Generations, you simply have to be a fan.
For those that don't know, last year, I compiled a list of what I thought were the Top Albums of 2010. I tried my best to turn every nook & cranny that I can find in order to make sure that the list was absolutely final. Lo and behold a year later, that is not the case. For those of you unaware, I am currently compiling a list for 2011 albums of the year, and during my search I find myself really digging a song, album, or artist and wanting to learn more. Well, during this search I found myself falling in love with an album, only to learn that I can't put it on my 2011 list since the album had came out the year before.
So this list is to rectify the oversights I had made last year and highlight some great albums I had overlooked. These are my favorite albums of 2010....that I did not hear in 2010.
RBR's own Felipe Diaz-Vera ("SSP" on the forums) co-hosts the third episode of 600 Seconds with Anthony Skatz. In this episode, the fighting game tournament scene and its stereotypes are debunked, and we devolve into discussing all of our favorite current games. Or as much as can be discussed in 10 minutes.
After the typical sabbatical all of Skatz's shows seem to go on, 600 Seconds is BACK with guest Jarrod Johnston (BadBad_LeroyBrown on the forums) to make some predictions on the NFL season that starts in less than 24 hours. But how many do we actually make within 10 minutes?
As of August 8th this past year, the show "Batman: The Brave & The Bold" had officially ended it's third season in the United Kingdom. It also turns out that it would be the final season of the show. The last batch of episodes will soon be airing in America starting in September.
I always felt that Batman TBATB (I'll be abbreviating for the sake of not typing the title continuously) was unfairly scrutinized from the start because of people who didn't get the direction it was going for. When the teaser for the show hit, people saw Batman doing all these team-ups with other superheroes and crazy plots and thought of the old Adam West Batman shows. Which people considered to be a mockery of the Batman name. But while of course Batman is a dark character as explored in all sorts of media, there should not be a problem with exploring the lighter side of Batman's history. TBATB is camp, but does so in a way of over the top ridiculousness while never forgetting just how amazing Batman is. Just seeing moments like this take hold on screen make the show hilarious and awesome.
