The Old Game Night Thread

Postby Doc » Sun May 13, 2012 6:36 am

Our Halo Reach night just ended, and I got a handful of people asking for a means of suggesting games for future events, so I've put together a general thread for event announcements and FAQs.

If you have a specific game you'd like to play, or perhaps you'd like to play in a different time slot (Sunday afternoons will always be un-doable because of our show recording), please use this thread (or email us at mailbag@endgameplus.com).

So far the most successful Game Nights have been for Halo Reach (by far) and Starcraft II, so we foresee hosting many more Halo Reach nights (maybe we'll have a co-op weekend every now and then).

Our Next Events:

June 16th: Red Dead Redemption (360)
June 23rd: Killing Floor (PC)

How we pick games:

We usually try to pick games that are popular and have been on the market for awhile to ensure they're widely accessible. If you want to find others to play a lesser-played title with you (fighting games and Pokemon would be good examples), I will be putting together a thread for this in the near future, so make sure you suggest every game you want to play, not just ones you think have the highest success of becoming a Game Night.

We also try to alternate console events and PC ones so we don't alienate anyone that prefers to play on one platform over the other.

Game catalogs:

http://endgameplus.com/files/catalog_pc.jpg
http://endgameplus.com/files/catalog_xbox.jpg
http://endgameplus.com/files/catalog_playstation.jpg
http://endgameplus.com/files/catalog_nintendo.jpg

Hosting your own event:

If you would like to host your own event on an off-night, we'd be more than happy to help you organize it. We just ask that you don't host it on the same day as one of our events so we're not competing for attendance. We usually announce Game Nights two weeks in advance. You can contact us about hosting in this thread, or by (again) emailing us at mailbag@endgameplus.com.

If you want to participate in events in the future:

Check this thread or endgameplus.com for updates on upcoming events. Endgameplus.com is our main site and I usually update there first, but I will edit this post for new announcements. I also announce events on Facebook and Twitter.

For Xbox 360 events, please add the gamertag "Endgame Plus" to your friends list. This is a dummy account I use to send mass invites. You're more than welcome to friend request individual members of EG+, just make sure you include this account on your friend list if you want to play during events (it's easier and faster to organize).

For PC events, please join our Steam group, Endgame Plus (even if we're not playing a game on Steam). We also rent a Ventrilo server for voice-chat, so we recommend everyone download Vent prior to our events (it's free). Our server is at endgameplus.typefrag.com; port is 43379; leave password blank. If you'd like to use our server for your own use on an off-night, you may do so. Just please be responsible about it.

We still don't know how we'll organize PS3 events and will most likely work it out on a case-by-case basis.

Game night was great last night. I was xWhYSoSeRiiOuSx. It was my first time playing with you guys, but it was a lot of fun. I don't believe I will be able to do most PC game nights, unless the are free to play, but I will defiantly try. I think Battlefield 3 would be lots of fun for game night also. Another suggestion is streaming game night for people who cant attend. That'd be cool.

Tribes: Ascend is actually Free-to-Play and we'll probably try playing it again in the future.

And we do have an account on twitch.tv and we've streamed PC games before, but for console games we'd have to buy a $200 capture card (which we may do in the future).

Well Diablo III is awesome. The login times are pretty shit right now, but I've found a lot of people that are playing, so I'm going ahead with the Game Night on Saturday.

It's a lot of the fun and I don't think the system requirements are very demanding if you decide you want to join us.

Edit: I'll try streaming it, if you guys just prefer to....watch....

I'm excited for more Halo fun on Saturday.

Also, after playing a lot of Max Payne multiplayer i realized that it would be an awesome game night game.. the only real issue is other than Dave and I, I dont think anyone else owns this for the 360.

I figured I would just throw it out there.

I haven't touched the Multi Player portion of Max Payne 3 yet, but from everything i've heard from friends who have, it's an awesome game. I want to get through as much of the single player as i can before the weekend so i can get a decent review out for it, after that i'll be hitting it hard.

We should probably set up a crew for End Game Plus hosts and listeners to join too.

I plan on getting Max Payne 3 soon. It'll be a fun game night. Can't wait for more Halo on Saturday though! A decent computer game for those PC game nights is Red Crucible 2. The gameplay isn't amazing, but it's free for both PC and Mac. Just a thought.

I completely forgot to buy a copy of Reach for tonight.

Well, I will just list the games I have that could work for a game night.

Others do the same, maybe we can agree on a game or something.

For 360 I have:

Red Dead
Gears 3
Borderlands
Max Payne 3
GTA 4
MW3
Black Ops
Battlefield 3

I'm going to be playing some ME3 multiplayer on saturday but only for an hour or so, after which i'm open to suggestions. I'd love to get some time in on Max Payne 3, but i have Red Dead, GTA4 and Battlefield 3 as well.

Jesus, i'm a Rockstar junkie...

DCUO Is on the catalog list? I wanted to suggest that for game night for any week.

But to make it clear if it does get picked (Which is something I doubt): PC and Villian side, correct?

Most likely, though if we ever got enough people wanting a PS3 night, we could try it there too. We're pretty much up for anything if at least 3 or so people display some interest.

And villains, oh yesssss.....

I received a request for us to try the Guild Wars 2 beta this weekend, so I'll be trying to set that up for our Game Night. I'll know more Friday.

I have no idea who will show up for it or if it would be difficult to get everyone in, so we have a backup game too, in which we'll be playing Terraria. Nick will set up a server for everyone that wants to join in. Again, I'll have more information about it come Saturday, so make sure you join the Steam group.

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/endgameplus

If you don't have Terraria or know anything about it, it's basically a side-scroller Minecraft, and it should run on even the shittiest of computers and laptops. And we'll be playing it more than once if you're on the fence about buying a copy from Steam for just one event (I think it's around $10 right now).

If i have a copy of the game, and it didnt cost me $10 ;) does the multiplayer or whatever still work just fine?

I got it like a few months ago, the games fun every once in a while, i have no idea what im doing half the time.

The multiplayer isn't through Steam or any kind of lobby/matchmaking system (we'll be directly networking to Nick's game), so I would assume it would, but I haven't done it myself with a less-than-$10-winky-face copy.
