Hey guys, I have an xbox, and have had one since the day it came out. I decided I'm going to buy myself a PS3, (which I will get sometime in the next month) and was wondering what PS3 games are must-haves. I'm definitely buying Metal Gear Solid HD Collection because I loved the first 3, and it's cheap now, but what else should I get? Thanks.

Definitely the Uncharted Series. Little Big Planet 1 & 2 are really, fun too.


After that, I can't really say. Be careful deciding to pick up the PS3 version of multi-platform games, a lot of textural issues or save issues have occured or been reported. Not every series, but more companies have worked better with 360 than PS3.


I can say that Dante's Inferno and Batman: Arkham Ciry work on the PS3.



The PS3 is a far more superior home-theater system than the 360, though. Beyond just Blu-ray capabilities. Saving movies and music and a better interface make it a dream to use.

Little Big Planet 2 is amazing if you like building things. It's miles superior to the first game.

Valkyria Chronicles if the idea of a tactical RPG is appealing.

Some people swear by the Resistance and Killzone games. I personally hated Resistance and never played Killzone.

DC Universe is free to download and play now.

There's Demons Souls, and then Dark Souls. Dark Souls isn't an exclusive but the PSN community is much more active than Xbox Live.

God of War is okay.

So was Twisted Metal.

Ratchet & Clank games are big, I personally found them really bland.

Same for Uncharted.

If you want something that screams Japan a la Shenmue, look into the Yakuza games.

And if you didn't know, most Bluetooth headsets work with the Playstation (I read a lot of USB headsets work too), so don't spend $50 on a mic just because it says "Playstation" on it.

Being a PS3 Fanboy (though I'm beginning to convert to XBOX slowly) I have a lot of suggestions.

The LBP games are a must for any PS owner.

If you do pick up any of the Uncharted series, I recommend 2. It's regarded as the best by most people.

I prefer my fighting games here so games like Mortal Kombat and SSFIV:AE are a perfect addition to a collection.

The iNFAMOUS series are a good buy as well, though if I were you I would skip straight to 2 for a better experience.

The PSN Library has a great selection as well, such as Beyond Good and Evil HD

I'm always pro-Ratchet and Clank as well as the Jak & Daxter series, hell even Sly Cooper. But avoid that crossover game they had.

Speaking of that, the Move is fun...but only for a little bit. Sure, it's cool and all but it sits with my Wii and collects dust now and days.

If you're into action games, God of War and Heavenly Sword are highly recommended.

One of my personal favorites, Heavy Rain is a must buy, or at least rent because everyone has to play that.

DCU is fun, but takes a shit ton of memory.

For Multi-Platform, I suggest the Batman games along with The Orange Box/Portal 2. Look phenomenal.

Racing games like Forza look magnificent on PS3, so that's something to try. But Twisted Metal is meh.

On the topic of accessories, don't buy a keypad, just use a USB keyboard. Also Blu-Rays are a must if you own a PS3. Not much to say there.

Also, I really hate the PS3 controller, so I recommend getting the Batman Arkham City themed controller. The stick layout is the 360 controller style and the triggers act more like the 360 imo. If you don't mind the two-sticks being lower, then disregard this.

Infamous
Metal Gear HD
Metal Gear 4
Heavy Rain
Flower
Journey
LBP2 (no need for the first one since all levels are backwards compatible)
ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD collection
Tomb Raider HD Collection

Flower and Journey are both downloadable titles and relatively short, but absolutely superb. If you buy nothing else on this list, get those two games!

DCUO sucks, but i'm not a massive MMO fan which probably explains my feelings on that.

DCUO sucks, but i'm not a massive MMO fan which probably explains my feelings on that.

Woah, DCUO fan here. Have been playing the game since January (Shit, it's been 5 months ... man, I lost count on the time) and I enjoy the game.

But I agree, it's your typical MMO when it comes to end game stuff and so it could turn people who aren't MMO fans away.

I will make a thread and explain the game in short, but all you need to know is that the game is an MMO for the PS3, it's almost 15 GB's in size. I haven't tried it on PS3 as it's also a PC game and I am a PC gamer.

And it's developed by SOE - Sony Online Entertainment - The people behind Everquest, Everquest 2 and star wars galaxies.

God of War HD collection (not the PSP one, the originals from the PS2) is still a blast to this day. The series has been marred by repetitiveness but if you've never played the original game before, you'll love it. I honestly think it's a classic.

I was in the minority that liked Prototype more than Infamous, and in general I wouldn't go out of my way to play the latter. Infamous was a slicker, more well rounded game - Prototype was a more insane "FUCK YEAH IM A SUPERHERO, LETS FUCK SHIT UP" game with 10x cooler powers.

Heavy Rain is great, especially if you're into your stories in games.

I actually am not that crazy about most other PS3 exclusives. I had both systems but traded the 360 because I never used it. Xbox live just isn't worth the cash especially when you realise the ol' line of the PSN servers being all quiet because everyone plays on XBL is a big pile of poop.

Having owned both consoles, I can honestly say that has never ONCE been a problem. At no point have I ever been struck by how multi platform games perform worse on the PS3.

Bayonetta had problems at release, but a patch fixed it all. I know Skyrim had a laundry list of problems, no idea if they were patched.

Still, it's kind of an exaggeration to say Playstation usually gets the inferior port. Many titles actually look better on the PS3, and many PS3 games actually come with better extras than their 360 counterparts (Dead Space 2 came with a free copy of Extraction, Portal 2 came with a free voucher for the game on Steam).

The only franchise I can say definitively plays better on the 360 is Call of Duty, and that's just because Activision is cutting corners by focusing everything on their biggest market.

Mass Effect 3 is another of those Skyrim type games that was significantly worse on PS3. Other than the graphics looking like poop, it was locked to 20 fps.

On one hand I want to say it's not really a factor to even think about because it's only a small handful of games that ship broken on PS3. But at the same time this group of games does include Skyrim, Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Madden, PES. At the end of the day they would have been much better off using a more powerful processor than the 360 instead of creating a whole new architecture.

Yeah, I didn't mean to say every PS3-version of the multiplatform games had issues, but the issues of the PS3 games were far more prominent and noted. I actually can't think too much of issues that 360 versions of the games had that the PS3 didn't. Even overall glitched games like Dead Island had far more issues with graphics/textures, contact/collisions and even random save deletions.
